City of Ember - Chapter 3

 City of Ember chapter 3

In chapter 3 Doon worked at the pipeworks after he traded jobs with Lina. When he entered the pipeworks the air smelt like old rubber due to the water. He saw many yellow stickers when he entered the pipeworks. After he got ready for his job he went to work in tunnel 97 which was complicated to get to. He went down some stairs but heard a roar that got louder and louder and he went down but the roar was just the river flow. He had never heard a roar as heartstopping as the river. There's a lot of workers at the generator to replace parts that fell off so the generator would keep running to keep the town lights operating. Doon understands lots of things but doesn't really know much about electricity. The reason why the generator is in the pipeworks is because the generator runs from the river, that's called hydroelectricity. Doon has a father that owns a tool shop. Lister is the person Doon met when he walked in, Lister was the pipeworks manager. So no one really understands how the generator runs from water and that's why they just sort the generator and not focus on seeing is the river is the problem.
